Loma Prieta Club

In 1906, a group of intrepid mountain ladies banded together to form the Loma Prieta Club. Throughout the last 120 years, the club has helped our community with funding and volunteer help when the need arises. In 2007, the club decided to recognize a graduating eighth-grader from C.T. English Middle School, who gave back to the with their volunteer time and labor. Barbara Perry, a former C.T. English teacher and Loma Prieta Club member, was instrumental in creating the award. We honor her by naming this award the Loma Prieta Club Barbara Perry Community Service Award.

Each year, our club presents a certificate and $250 cash to a graduate with the most community-service hours. This year, our winner with over 60 volunteer hours was Emily Asheghian. This young lady helped with Theatre in the Mountains productions, snack shack and much more for Los Gatos Lions Club, spearheaded a tutoring program for elementary students, and helped start the Tech & Teens program. She also volunteers to serve lunch daily. Emily is also a straight-A student.

We presented the award in early June at Maison du Lac, along with our Los Gatos High School scholarships. Emily was accompanied by her parents, Daniel and Erin Asheghian, brother Eli, and grandmother Dorothy Thurman. Emily was also honored at C.T. English Middle School’s eighth-grade graduation.
