BEan IN NATURE
Survival Summer Camps — at Los Gatos Farms
By Holly Bowen · July 2026 · Volume MMXXVI, Number 7 · Page 8 · 2 min read

We invite your young explorer to learn the skills of wilderness survival and strengthen their connection to the earth and its creatures. BEan IN NATURE offers weekly wilderness-survival summer camps at Los Gatos Farms, just off Highway 17 near the Summit, throughout the month of July.
Through hands-on projects and age-appropriate adventures, children will master important tools of the wild. They will build confidence, creativity, and nurture their bond with the natural world. Our camp experience changes week-to-week, guided by the land, the season, and the children themselves. While activities evolve, we follow a predictable daily flow that supports emotional safety, confidence, and belonging. Every day blends wilderness skills, creative exploration, free play, reflection, and community-building.

It is appropriate that this is the year and the moment when we move from dreams to action.
Meet us at Bear Creek Stables where our gate is opening for public programs. Beginning July 1, Friends of Bear Creek Stables will officially take over stable operations. The founders of our non- profit, the ad hoc committee, the current executive board, boarders, advisors, and community supporters have worked for years to make this exciting transition happen.
We will slowly and steadily begin offering classes and workshops for all ages, abilities, and economic levels here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As a thank you to our MNN readers and advocates, we welcome you to our first public tour on Sunday, July 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. Space is limited, so scan our QR code or visit our website at friendsofbearcreekstables.org to register. Carpooling is recommended and appreciated.
This will be a very special evening where nature transports you from urban rush to rural retreat. If you can’t attend, you can subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of our homepage to receive notice of upcoming programs directly in your email box. You can email us at friendsofbearcreekstables@ gmail.com.
