Mark your calendars for the annual Mountain History Barbecue on Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Mason-Taylor Ranch, 22849 Summit Road. Enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch, live music, old-fashioned children’s games, a scavenger hunt, history presentations, and merchandise. Local history books will be available for a small donation.

The event will be held in the historic redwood grove at the Mason-Taylor Ranch. The property was homesteaded by the Schultheis family in 1851. The abundant history of the property includes early Native American sacred sites, the site of the log cabin where “Mountain Charlie”

McKiernan recovered after a grizzly bear attack, early farming and farm buildings, old wagon roads to the Laurel Train Station, and a Georgian Victorian house.
