Many exciting events took place before the summer break, including musical concerts featuring our transitional kindergarten through fifth-grade students. We appreciate the One Community Los Gatos Foundation that funds our music program.

During open house, we hosted our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Exhibition. It is the culminating event for our elementary-school students. Students apply the IB skills, traits, and conceptual understandings practiced during their time at Lexington. They explore a transdisciplinary theme and research a topic of their choice. Student projects included deforestation, rooftop gardening, artificial dyes, the importance of student clubs, access to education, and more. Interactive displays were placed around the school and incorporated Spanish and other languages. A student presentation featuring math, art, and digital media kicked off the evening.

One student researched gender equity in sports and wrote to the board of trustees as part of her action component. She wanted to learn more about how district fields are rented after discovering they are used more often for baseball than for softball. She received responses from board members and the district’s chief business officer. She attended a recent board meeting where they voted to build a batting cage and store equipment for softball use at Fisher Middle School.

For this year’s “fun day,” our Home and School Club brought in a 100-foot inflatable obstacle course and two foam cannons. The

We also enjoyed the final game for the Lexington World Cup soccer tournament, an event that correlates with the men’s and LGUSD organized the annual employee- appreciation luncheon during staff appreciation week. Alex Divina, one of our special-education aides, received a distinguished-employee award. Alex is very kind, and his patience and support for our students has made a difference. It was a well- School concluded with the fifth- grade promotion ceremony. Mira, Grace, and Marysia received awards for completing Lexington’s unique Pathway to Multilingualism program in Russian, Polish, and Mandarin. Evelina received the IB Student of the Year Award and a $200 check from the IB California Association of World After eight years of serving students in LGUSD, Superintendent Paul Johnson is retiring. I met Paul in 2015, when he hired me from Norway to work as a principal in Mill Valley. He hired me again to be principal of Lexington. It has been an honor to work under his leadership. He is a true visionary, a strong supporter of the IB program, and a very kind and fair human being. He has always believed in making the world a better place and has positively impacted this community. Paul will truly be This fall, Dan Deguara, will be coming from the Belmont Redwood Shores school district to be our new superintendent. We are looking forward to working with him.
