As we head into the new school year, we reflect on our history. Lexington School was originally built in 1859 in the town of Lexington, as a one-room schoolhouse. It was rebuilt a mile south in Alma in 1911. After the reservoir was filled, Lexington opened at its present location on Old Santa Cruz Highway on September 15, 1953. In 2007, we became the first public International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school in Northern California. In 2014, Lexington was rebuilt for the fourth time. This past summer, we repaved our upper parking lot, repainted, and replaced our lower field garden irrigation, thanks to a generous grant from the Loma Prieta Club.
The Los Gatos United School District school year began with a staff breakfast and welcome presentation at Fisher Middle School. Staff from Louis Van Meter, Daves Avenue, Lexington, Blossom Hill, and Fisher listened to our new superintendent Dan Deguara share this year’s theme, “One Community, Connected by Care and Empowered to Grow.” Back at school, Lexington staff met and enjoyed an amazing lunch provided by our administrative
assistant, Jill Mayo. Deguara also visited our third-grade class to talk about leadership Lexington will continue our unique “Pathway to Multilingualism” program this year for any student interested in practicing their home language or learning a new language. Families decide on monthly goals.
If completed, the child receives a certificate and recognition at a school assembly. Fifth graders can participate in a more rigorous program and receive a seal of biliteracy on their fifth-grade promotion certificate in the Our eight wildcat dens reunited once again. Students and staff are divided up in multi-age wildcat dens: lynx, bobcat, tiger, After taking den photographs, everyone gathered and shared their cheers. Our home and school club organized den color packets for each new student with headbands, Fifth-grader Brandon Rolinson was selected to lead the flag salute at a September teachers shared that he “loves challenges and broadening his knowledge through inquiry at school. He shows his principled and caring nature in the way he values his relationships with his peers, applies his thinking skills in his learning, and is always open to reflection and growth. Brandon is a role model global citizen and enriches the classroom and school community every day.”
Brandon is a quiet leader and a responsible student.
