Engaging Students and Families

Loma Prieta School District

A successful school year begins by building strong connections between educators, students, and families. We enjoyed a big turnout at this year’s back-to-school-night events. Teachers welcomed families into their classrooms, shared academic expectations and routines, and offered meaningful guidance on how parents and caregivers can support their children’s learning.

Connecting with teachers early in the year helps families become active partners in their children’s education. Alongside this focus on family partnerships, the district is strengthening its elementary-science instruction through the adoption of the National Geographic “exploring science” curriculum. Through engaging, age-appropriate content and hands-on learning experiences, students will have opportunities to explore the world around them while developing critical-thinking, problem-solving, and scientific-reasoning skills aligned to the next-generation science standards. Together, our successful back-to-school nights and the adoption of a consistent K–5 science curriculum reflect a shared commitment to strong partnerships and enriching learning experiences for every student.

We would also like to thank last year’s Gala Top Hat donors for making Gaga Ball possible for our C.T. English Middle School students. It has quickly become a favorite activity during PE and recess. It is wonderful to see our middle-school students playing and having fun together.
